Our National Parks are such an amazing gift. The protected natural beauty, the quiet (if you go in the right season), and the ability to see such gorgeous swaths of our country, and maybe get an idea what things may have looked (and felt) like before we all got here... before all the development and busyness of modern life. We’ve lived three hours away from Olympic National Park for six years, and are just getting here now. Oops! Won’t let that happen again.
Don’t do what I did! If you live anywhere near a National Park: a) lucky you!... b) Make some time to go there SOON! As for me, I am just sooo grateful that all this beautiful land is set aside for everyone to share (thank you, Teddy, John Muir, and all the rest). A few haikus inspired by our trip:
Ruby Beach
Nothing but pebbles,
Okay, and massive logs, too,
Where are the tide pools?
Lake Quinault
Fog crowns the new day;
We tour through the web of life,
Just two tiny strands
Cape Flattery
Forest xylophone,
path through the trees to lands end;
birds, seals, swirling sea!
Lake Crescent
(loved it so much it got its own post):
Pretending it's Still Summer
