This is for the birds!

...and the squirrels, and the raccoons, and all the other outdoor creatures that are working so hard at this time of the year. They're making it happen every day -- braving the cold/rain/wind/snow/misc. yucky weather to scavenge whatever bits of food they can find before hiding away again before the next big storm.

So it seemed like the perfect time to share my friend Becky's thoughtful idea for a smiley: birdseed mandala! We made this one back in December, for the creatures of Laurelhurst Park, while meeting up for my birthday. The birdseed, hanging out in the park with my dear friend, plus the smiles from people who wandered by, were all together a perfect birthday gift. The next day I came back to check on it, but there was nothing left but a heart-shaped cluster of ducks. Maybe it was their birthday, too?!

(we used sunflower seeds, mixed birdseed, and some cracked corn, but I'm pretty sure the birds and other creatures appreciate any color/kind. Hang in there, everybody, spring and better weather are coming soon!)
